L A U R I E R

With the arrival of the railroad to Laurier, Manitoba in 1897, this village became an important hub for the area. Located between McCreary and Ste Rose du Lac, many of the Laurier’s settlers were Metis and French colonists. (from France). The original name of Laurier was Fosbery, named after one of the first settlers. However, to honour their French heritage they changed the name to Laurier after the first French Canadian prime minister, Sir Wilfred Laurier. French culture, established by the early colonists, has been preserved and a French immersion school in Laurier continues today.
The Post office opened on March 1, 1903.
