The town was named after the Ellis family, local pioneers.
The Post Office opened on December 1, 1883. and closed on March 31, 1969.
The first postmaster was J.R. Ellis, who held the position until 1914.
It is currently a Glost Town.
The earliest known postmark from Ellisboro dated April 26, 1889, when the town was part of the District of Assininboia.
