The town was named for the spot at which a survey party lost a barometer. The town was originally named Val Blair. The name changed to Aneroid on December 1, 1913. The first Post Office opened on February 1, 1911. The first Postmaster was H.M. Blair. He held the position from 1911 to 1914. Current population is 45.
